4. What are Posting Groups

Based on your child’s PSLE score, they will be posted to a secondary school through three Posting Groups - Posting Groups 1, 2 and 3.

Posting Groups are used for secondary school placement and to guide the initial subject levels that students can take at the start of Secondary 1 (S1).

PSLE Score Posting Groups Indicative level for most subjects at start of Secondary 1
4 - 20  G3
 21 and 22 2 or 3 G2 or G3
 23 and 24 G2
25 1 or 2 G1 or G2
26 - 30
(with AL7 or better in English Language and
Mathematics)
 1  G1

If your child is eligible for only one Posting Group

They are not allowed to choose another Posting Group.

If your child is eligible for two Posting Groups

Choose the Posting Group that is more suited to their learning pace and abilities. Please note the following:

  • The chosen Posting Group will apply to all the school choices.
  • You cannot submit school choices with a mix of Posting Groups.

If you do not submit any school choices, your child will be assigned to the more academically demanding Posting Group. For example, if they had a choice of Posting Group 2 or 3, they will be assigned to Posting Group 3.

Indicative level of subjects at S1

At the start of S1, students typically take subjects at the level based on their overall PSLE score:

  • Students posted via Posting Group 3
They will take all subjects at the most academically demanding level at G3 (G stands for General).
  • Students posted via Posting Group 2 and Posting Group 1
They will take most subjects at G2 and G1 respectively.

With Full SBB in the secondary schools, students will have greater flexibility to study more subjects at different levels that suit their interests, aptitude and learning needs.

Students posted through Posting Group 2 and Posting Group 1 have the option to take English Language, Mathematics, Science, and/or Mother Tongue Languages at more academically demanding levels if they have performed well in these subjects at PSLE.
