Secondary 1 (S1): How to choose schools
5. Understand PSLE score ranges
The PSLE score ranges listed in ±¬ÁϹ«Éçapp show the scores of the first and last student admitted to each school in the previous year through S1 Posting.
The PSLE score ranges in ±¬ÁϹ«Éçapp serve only as a reference as they are based on the PSLE scores and school choices of the previous Primary 6 cohort.
Cut-off points (COPs) can fluctuate by a few points year-on-year, depending on each cohort’s PSLE results and school choices made by the students in that year’s S1 Posting Exercise.
Meeting the COPs does not guarantee admission. For each school, the COPs are determined by the PSLE score of the last student posted to that school in each Posting Group. Not every student who met the COP was posted as they may have been tie-broken out.

For affiliated schools, the PSLE score ranges are presented similarly, with additional information on affiliated score ranges.
It is not a requirement for your child to take Higher Chinese Language (HCL) in primary school to be admitted to an SAP school.
Nonetheless, students who obtain a Pass, Merit or Distinction in HCL and have a PSLE score of 14 or better are eligible for a posting advantage for admission to SAP schools. This applies before the tie-breakers.
The PSLE score ranges of SAP schools show the HCL grades of the first and last student admitted in previous year’s S1 Posting process, where applicable.
The HCL grades of the first and last student admitted into this school are shown in brackets:
- (D) = Distinction
- (M) = Merit
- (P) = Pass

If the first or last student admitted did not take HCL, no HCL grades will be displayed.
- Student A with a PSLE score of 11 and did not take HCL. They would be posted to the school as 11 is a better PSLE score than the COP of 12(P).
- Student B with a PSLE score of 12 and did not take HCL. They would not be posted to the school as the school's COP is better than the student's score.
